Georges River National Park

Georges River National Park is a protected natural area located in southern Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, approximately 25 kilometres south-west of the Sydney CBD. The park encompasses 514 hectares of diverse terrain along the banks of the Georges River, a 96-kilometre saltwater river that flows through the heart of the reserve. The landscape is characterized by Hawkesbury sandstone formations, mangrove swamps, salt marshes, and extensive Sydney Hinterland Exposed Sandstone Woodland. The park is managed by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974. The traditional custodians of the land are the Dharug people on the north side of the river and the Dharawal people on the south side, with the Georges River known to Indigenous peoples as the Tucoerah River. The park supports remarkable biodiversity with approximately 248 native vertebrate species recorded, including 20 threatened species and a breeding population of koalas.
