Great Glacier Provincial Park

Great Glacier Provincial Park is a small but distinctive protected area in the Stikine Country region of northwestern British Columbia, Canada. Established in 2001, the park was created specifically to protect Great Glacier and the rugged mountainous terrain that surrounds it, preserving an important piece of the broader Boundary Ranges landscape along the lower Stikine River valley. The park lies within the traditional territory of the Tahltan First Nation, in a remote stretch of river valley near the international boundary with Alaska. Although it is compact in size, its setting gives it a strong sense of scale: glacier-clad mountains, the powerful Stikine River corridor, and the narrow ribbon of valley floor below. The isolation and the proximity to the active outflow of Great Glacier make it one of the more atmospheric, glacier-focused parks in British Columbia. Great Glacier is also part of a paired protected-area network along the Stikine, with Choquette Hot Springs Provincial Park sitting directly across the river. Together, they preserve contrasting features in the same valley: a flowing tidewater-influenced glacier on one side, and a system of hot springs and associated wetlands on the other, framed by the steep terrain of the Boundary Ranges.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
