Green Castle Hill

Green Castle Hill is a protected hilltop site in the southwest of Antigua, within the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda. It sits near the small community of Green Castle and forms part of the Shekerley Mountains, the island's principal volcanic ridge. Since 2008 the area has been considered the first national park in the Shekerley range, combining natural landscape protection with the stewardship of an important pre-Columbian archaeological site. The hill's main cultural distinction is a set of standing stone monuments popularly described as Antigua's Stonehenge. Local archaeologists and historians have associated the site with ceremonial and astronomical use, suggesting that the hilltop served both ritual functions and as a vantage point for observing the night sky. From the summit, visitors can look out over Antigua's west coast and across the Central Plain, a landscape that also retains traces of the island's colonial plantation era.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
