Karkonoski National Park

Karkonoski National Park is a protected area in southwestern Poland, situated along the national border with the Czech Republic in the Karkonosze, or Giant Mountains. Established in 1959, the park covers the Polish portion of this compact but ecologically significant high-mountain range, characterized by glacial cirques, granite and basalt formations, peat bogs, subalpine krummholz, and forested slopes. The park preserves a vertical sequence of habitats ranging from montane forests of spruce and beech through the distinctive dwarf mountain pine zone up to alpine tundra-like communities. It works in close partnership with the adjoining Czech Krkonoše National Park, the two together forming the UNESCO Krkonoše/Karkonosze Biosphere Reserve. Together they protect one of Central Europe's most important remaining upland ecosystems and a defining landscape of the Sudetes.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
