Limpinwood Nature Reserve

Limpinwood Nature Reserve is a protected subtropical rainforest reserve in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, eastern Australia. It lies north-west of the rural locality of Limpinwood and north of Tyalgum, and its rugged escarpment forms part of the border between New South Wales and Queensland. The reserve sits within the Shield Volcano group of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, a recognition that underscores its significance for ancient rainforest conservation. Its biodiversity also places it within the Scenic Rim Important Bird Area, identified by BirdLife International for the presence of several threatened bird species. Originally gazetted in 1963 over former fauna and crown reserves and expanded in 1967 and again in 1988, Limpinwood is one of the highest-status forest reserves in New South Wales. It protects old-growth subtropical rainforest and hardwood forest, and is managed as a low-intervention wilderness with no public tracks or formed access routes.
