Lough Beg

Lough Beg is a small freshwater lake lying just north of Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland, sitting on the border between County Londonderry and County Antrim. The lake forms a northern extension of the broader Lough Neagh wetland system, with the Lower Bann flowing into it from Lough Neagh at its southern end and continuing out toward the sea at the northern end. The surrounding wetlands and seasonally flooded grasslands are rich in rare plants and serve as an important stopping point on migration routes for waterbirds. Together with Lough Neagh, the lake forms part of a Ramsar-designated wetland of international significance and is protected as the Lough Beg National Nature Reserve. The area combines ecological importance with cultural heritage, most visibly through Church Island, a site of an early medieval monastery.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
