Maze National Park

Maze National Park is a protected area in the Gamo Gofa Zone of South Ethiopia Regional State, situated approximately 460 kilometers southwest of Addis Ababa. Established in 2005, the park covers roughly 210 square kilometers of diverse terrain centered on the Maze River, which flows through the park and lends it its name. The protected area occupies a transitional ecological zone between Ethiopia's highland plateau and the lowland rift valley systems, encompassing elevations ranging from 1,000 to 1,200 meters above sea level. The park is managed by the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority and is particularly significant for its population of Swayne's hartebeest, an endangered subspecies for which Maze represents one of the most important remaining habitats in Ethiopia.
