Prales Jizera

Prales Jizera is a protected nature reserve situated on the summit area of Mount Jizera, the second-highest peak on the Czech side of the Jizera Mountains. Located in the cadastral territory of Hejnice in the Liberec Region, the reserve preserves one of the oldest fragments of high mountain spruce forest in the range, together with boulder screes and exposed rock outcrops. Established in 1960, it is the oldest formally protected area within the Jizera Mountains and forms a key part of a broader network of conservation designations, including the Jizera Mountains Protected Landscape Area and the Jizera Mountains Bird Protection Area. The reserve is significant both for its surviving climax spruce community and for the ecological recovery story that has followed decades of industrial air pollution and subsequent bark beetle outbreaks.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
