Réserve naturelle régionale des tourbières du Jolan et de la Gazelle

The Réserve naturelle régionale des tourbières du Jolan et de la Gazelle is a regional nature reserve in the Cantal department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in central France. Established on 14 June 2018, it became the first nature reserve ever created in the Cantal department, covering roughly 155 hectares of high-altitude peatland on the commune of Ségur-les-Villas. Its defining feature is a remarkable cluster of peatland habitats set between the volcanic uplands of the Cézallier and the Monts du Cantal, part of the broader Parc naturel régional des Volcans d'Auvergne. Sphagnum hummocks, quaking mires, wet meadows, montane nard grasslands, and tall-herb fens form a mosaic of rare and fragile wetland communities above 1,100 metres elevation. The reserve is also notable for its rich fauna, from nesting marshland birds and migratory waterfowl to dragonflies, amphibians, and the elusive European otter. Managed by the syndicat mixte of the Volcans d'Auvergne Regional Natural Park, the site combines peatland protection, hydrological conservation, and ecological monitoring within one of France's most distinctive volcanic landscapes.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
