Analamerana Special Reserve

Analamerana Special Reserve is a protected natural area in the far north of Madagascar, set within the Diana region roughly 75 kilometers southwest of Antsiranana. It covers a distinctive landscape of limestone karst, deeply dissected plateaus, and twisting canyons that create an unusually rugged terrain at the edge of the island's dry zone. The reserve is best known for protecting dry deciduous forests and xerophytic plant communities shaped by a tropical climate with a long dry season. Its isolation has helped preserve endemic wildlife, including several extremely rare species found only in this part of northern Madagascar. In September 2023, Analamerana was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as part of the Andrefana Dry Forests extension, placing it among Madagascar's internationally recognized natural heritage sites and reinforcing its role in long-term biodiversity conservation.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
