Boetelerveld

Boetelerveld is a roughly 170 hectare nature reserve located near the hamlet of Boetele in the municipality of Raalte, in the Salland region of the province of Overijssel in the eastern Netherlands. It lies about three kilometres southeast of the town of Raalte and forms part of the Natura 2000 network of protected natural areas. The reserve is a characteristic example of the higher sandy soils of eastern Netherlands, with a landscape shaped by old cover sands, local loam subsoil layers, peat pockets in low-lying spots, and a mix of heathland, conifer woodland and small pools. Roughly one third of the area consists of heath vegetation, while a substantial portion is covered by planted pine forest. Because the original wet heath character has long been threatened by encroaching woodland and drying out, the managing organisation Landschap Overijssel has begun large-scale removal of pine to restore open, species-rich wet heath. Several ponds, a larger pool known as the Rietgat, and a bird observation hut are scattered through the elongated reserve, making the area a quiet destination for walkers and birdwatchers despite its small size. The reserve is now the last surviving wet heath area within the Salland region, a status that gives it particular ecological importance for both flora and birdlife. Although modest in scale, it plays a meaningful role in the broader Natura 2000 network of the Overijssel landscape.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate
