A large forested nature reserve in northern Brandenburg, shaped by former military training grounds and the Havel floodplain.

Kleine Schorfheide

The Kleine Schorfheide is a sizeable nature reserve covering roughly 73.75 square kilometres in the north of the German state of Brandenburg. It lies within the districts of Oberhavel and Uckermark, spanning parts of the municipal areas of Fürstenberg/Havel, Zehdenick, Lychen and Templin. The reserve was established before 1994 and is governed by a protection ordinance issued on 21 July 2000. The protected area combines large, previously unmanaged open landscapes that were once used as military training grounds with the near-natural floodplain of the Havel river and the contiguous forested area known as the Himmelpforter Heide. It is partly included in the European Natura 2000 network through the FFH site "Kleine Schorfheide-Havel". Several lakes, including the Tangersdorfer See, Großer Kramssee, Haussee, Großer Beutelsee, Großer Kuhwallsee and Großer Lankensee, fall within its boundaries. The reserve plays a regional conservation role in preserving formerly disturbed landscapes that have been allowed to revert to near-natural states, together with their associated lakes, forests and connecting riverine systems. Its ecological value is closely linked to the legacy of past military use and the resulting mosaics of open habitats, woodland and water bodies.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
