Krumme Lake Nature Reserve

Krumme Lake is a small nature reserve in the southeast of Berlin, located within the Stadtforst Grünau between the districts of Grünau and Schmöckwitz in the borough of Treptow-Köpenick. The protected area centers on a former side arm of the Dahme River and preserves a compact mosaic of wetland habitats surrounded by pine-dominated forest, including alder swamp forests, sedge and reed communities, and groundwater-influenced birch-oak woodland. The reserve has been formally designated as a nature protection area under Berlin's conservation framework, classified as a Habitat/Species Management Area under IUCN Category IV. It functions both as a Naturschutzgebiet and a Wasserschutzgebiet, combining habitat protection with groundwater safeguarding. Its character reflects the long interaction between the Dahme floodplain and the surrounding Grünau forest landscape. Ecologically, Krumme Lake is notable for its amphibian diversity, including the protected northern crested newt, and for invertebrates such as butterflies recorded on the surrounding meadows. Because of its tucked-away position within a larger forest, the reserve offers a quiet, narrow-pathed experience of wet woodland and meadow margins that has become increasingly rare in the densely urban context of Berlin.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
