Lastovo Nature Park

Lastovo is a nature park encompassing a remote island archipelago in the central Dalmatian region of Croatia, located approximately 13 kilometers south of Korčula in the Adriatic Sea. The protected area includes the main island of Lastovo along with 45 smaller islands and islets, forming one of the most isolated inhabited island groups in the Adriatic. The landscape features a distinctive karst terrain with 46 hills and 46 karstic fields, crowned by Mount Hum at 415 meters elevation. Despite suffering from major wildfires in 1971, 1998, and 2003, approximately 60-70% of the island remains covered with Mediterranean forests of Holm Oaks and Aleppo Pines. The archipelago was designated as a nature park in 2006, making it the eleventh protected area of its kind in Croatia, recognizing both its significant natural biodiversity and its rich cultural heritage spanning millennia of human occupation.
