Modrzewina Nature Reserve

Modrzewina Nature Reserve is a forest nature reserve located in central Poland, within the Mazowieckie Voivodeship and the Grójec Forest District. It lies on the Wysoczyzna Rawska, a flat morainic plateau south of Warsaw, near the settlement of Mała Wieś in the gmina Belsk Duży. The reserve was established in 1959 on what had previously been a privately protected woodland dating back to 1927. The defining feature of Modrzewina is the presence of the northernmost natural population of the Polish larch (modrzew polski), a regional subspecies of the European larch that is considered valuable both ecologically and scientifically. The mature trees reach heights of around 40 meters with trunk diameters of up to 120 cm, making the stand exceptional for this part of Poland. Beyond its botanical importance, the reserve has cultural and historical depth. Documents record that the woodland was admired by King Stanisław August Poniatowski in 1787, and the surviving forest even drew the attention of wartime occupiers who placed it under protection during World War II.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
