Montes del Queguay Managed Resource Protected Area

Montes del Queguay is a managed-resource protected area in western Uruguay, located in the department of Paysandú. It encompasses an extensive floodplain formed at the confluence of the Queguay Grande and Queguay Chico rivers, along with a network of tributary streams. The protected area is significant for sheltering one of the largest continuous masses of native forest remaining in Uruguay. The character of the area is shaped by a slow-draining flood dynamic that produces a mosaic of wetlands, lagoons, marshes, grasslands, and riparian woodlands. This combination of forested ridges, floodable lowlands, and stable uplands creates a distinctive ecological landscape set within Uruguay's Northwestern Prairies unit. Admitted into Uruguay's National System of Protected Natural Areas (SNAP) in 2014, Montes del Queguay represents a major effort to preserve one of the country's most important forest complexes while supporting sustainable activities in the surrounding region.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
