Naturschutzgebiet Padberg

Naturschutzgebiet Padberg is a small nature reserve covering the Diabas hilltop of the Padberg hill and its forested slopes descending toward the upper Diemel valley. It lies within the city area of Marsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, just south of the village of Padberg. The reserve protects representative examples of near-natural beech forest on base-rich substrates, together with rock and cliff habitats on sun-exposed slopes. It forms part of a wider network of woodland and rock biotopes in the region and is embedded in the surrounding protected countryside of the Hoppecke-Diemel-Bergland. Designated in 2001 as part of the Hoppecketal landscape plan, the area is also recognized for its ecological value at the European level, being included within the larger FFH site "Wälder bei Padberg" and, since 2023, within the Diemel- and Hoppecketal bird protection area.
