Río Negro National Park

Río Negro National Park lies in the far north of Paraguay, in the northeastern corner of the Alto Paraguay department along the Bolivian border. With an area of around 1,238 square kilometers, it forms the Paraguayan portion of the greater Pantanal, the largest inland wetland system on Earth. The park stands out ecologically because it sits at the meeting point of three very different biomes: the Pantanal wetlands, the dry Chaco, and the cerrado savannas. This convergence produces an unusually rich mix of habitats and species in a relatively compact area. In addition to its ecological importance, Río Negro National Park is also home to indigenous Ybytoso and Tomaraho communities, making it both a natural and a cultural landscape of regional significance. The nearest settlement is the small river town of Bahía Negra.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
