A LIPU-managed wetland reserve in the Po plain, sanctuary for the black-winged stilt and hundreds of bird species.

Riserva naturale di Torrile e Trecasali

The Riserva naturale di Torrile e Trecasali is a small protected wetland in the lowland plain of northern Italy, set between the Po and Taro rivers in the Province of Parma, Emilia-Romagna. The reserve, managed by the Italian League for the Protection of Birds (LIPU), was established as a regional nature reserve in 2010 and covers roughly one hundred hectares of marshes, canals, spring-fed pools, and riparian woodland. It is one of the most important bird areas in the Po Valley and is recognized as an Important Bird Area and a Special Protection Zone within the Natura 2000 network. The reserve is best known for the black-winged stilt, a species whose successful nesting in the area in the late 1970s inspired the creation of the original LIPU oasis. Over time the site has grown into a refuge for herons, wildfowl, waders, and woodland birds, with more than 250 bird species recorded. Compact in size but ecologically rich, the reserve functions as a key node on one of Europe's major migratory flyways and offers accessible birdwatching facilities in an otherwise heavily cultivated agricultural landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
