Serranía de Los Churumbelos Auka-Wasi National Natural Park

Serranía de Los Churumbelos Auka-Wasi National Natural Park is a protected mountain range in southern Colombia that was established in 2007 to preserve one of the most biologically diverse regions in the Andes. Located in the Bota Caucana region of Cauca Department, the park encompasses the southernmost spur of the Eastern Cordillera, forming a critical ecological corridor where four major biogeographical regions converge: the lowland Amazon basin, the Eastern Cordillera, the Central Cordillera, and the drier Magdalena Valley. This unique positioning, combined with the range's steep altitudinal gradient, has created an extraordinary mosaic of ecosystems and microhabitats that support exceptional biodiversity. The area gained international scientific attention following three rapid biodiversity surveys conducted between 1998 and 2000, which documented hundreds of bird species, mammals including the spectacled bear and mountain tapir, and numerous amphibians, reptiles, and butterflies.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
