Upper Agno River Basin Resource Reserve

The Upper Agno River Basin Resource Reserve is a large protected area in the Cordillera Central mountains of northern Luzon, straddling the province of Benguet along the borders of Ifugao and Nueva Vizcaya. It encompasses roughly 77,500 hectares of high-elevation forest, grassland, and river catchment, protecting the uppermost section of the Agno River from the Mount Data area down to the Binga Dam. Classified as an IUCN Category VI resource reserve, the area was consolidated in its current form in 2000, but its protected status traces back to early twentieth-century forest reserves established under the American colonial government. It safeguards the catchment feeding the Ambuklao and Binga dams, two of the oldest hydroelectric plants in the Philippines and historically important sources of power for Baguio and the wider Benguet region. Beyond its role as a hydropower watershed, the reserve harbors extensive lower and upper montane forests, areas of mossy cloud forest, high-altitude grasslands dominated by dwarf bamboo, and a rich assemblage of Philippine endemic birds and mammals. Together with neighboring Mount Pulag National Park and Mount Data National Park, it forms a critical uplift-protected corridor in the southern Cordillera.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
