Vejsplachy

Vejsplachy is a small protected natural area in the Czech Republic, located on the southwestern edge of the town of Vrchlabí in the Trutnov District of the Královéhradecký Region. It lies just north of the main ridge of the Krkonoše Mountains, in the gently rolling foothills that descend toward the upper Elbe valley. The site covers roughly 3.34 hectares of floodplain forest, wet meadows, reedbeds, and a fringe of a small pond, all clustered around the Vejsplachy rybník. Its significance rests on the mosaic of habitats that coexist in a very compact area. Wet meadows, a narrow ash and alder floodplain forest, reed-fringed standing water, and small ephemeral pools together support threatened plant and animal species, including several orchids and a rare wetland butterfly. The site was formally designated as a natural monument on 20 February 2020 to conserve these habitats and the species that depend on them. Although tiny in size and lying almost within the urban edge of Vrchlabí, Vejsplachy is scientifically and ecologically meaningful as a surviving fragment of traditional floodplain landscape in the Krkonoše foothills. It illustrates how small wetland patches in settled areas can still harbor important botanical and faunal diversity.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
