Winkel Nature Reserve

Winkel is a small nature reserve in the Uckermark district of Brandenburg, in northeastern Germany. Covering roughly 145 hectares, it lies southwest of the village of Ringenwalde, within the municipality of Temmen-Ringenwalde, and is characterized by a wet, glacially formed landscape dotted with kettle holes known locally as Sölle. The reserve was placed under formal protection on 1 October 1990, shortly after German reunification, as part of the wave of new conservation designations in the former East German states. It carries the official designation number 1059 and is classified as an IUCN Category IV area, meaning its management is oriented toward the conservation of specific habitats and species rather than broad wilderness protection. Winkel is valued primarily for its hydrological character: a humid, kettle-rich ground moraine landscape that shelters aquatic and wetland habitats shaped by the last glaciation. Along with the neighbouring Libbesickesee to the northwest and the Krummer See to the southeast, the reserve forms part of a network of small, ecologically sensitive wetland and lake sites in the southern Uckermark.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
