Boondelbah Island

Boondelbah Island is a small, uninhabited nature reserve lying a short distance off the entrance to Port Stephens on the New South Wales coast of Australia. Although it covers only a few hectares of rugged terrain, the island is ecologically significant because it serves as one of only two known breeding sites for the threatened Gould's petrel, a seabird of long-standing conservation concern. The reserve is administered by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and is classified as a strict nature reserve, with access restricted to scientific and conservation purposes. Together with neighbouring Cabbage Tree Island, Boondelbah forms part of an Important Bird Area recognised by BirdLife International, reflecting its importance for the survival of Australia's seabird populations. The island's distinctive open vegetation, its sheer cliffs, and its position in a productive coastal marine environment combine to make it both a refuge for breeding seabirds and a noteworthy example of an intensively managed island reserve in eastern Australia.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
