Copo National Park

Copo National Park is a federal protected area in the Santiago del Estero Province of northern Argentina, established in November 2000. The park encompasses approximately 118,118 hectares of representative Dry Chaco ecosystems, making it one of the significant conservation areas in Argentina's northwestern region. Located in the Copo Department, the park protects what remains of the once-extensive quebracho scrubland that dominated Santiago del Estero at the beginning of the 20th century, when roughly 80% of the province was covered in this distinctive dry forest. Today, the park serves as a refuge for some of the region's most iconic and endangered wildlife species, including the maned wolf, jaguar, giant anteater, chacoan peccary, and giant armadillo. The landscape is characterized by warm climate conditions with annual rainfall between 500 and 700 millimeters, supporting forests dominated by the Santiago red quebracho, a tree species renowned for its exceptionally hard wood and high tannin content.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
