The park includes the Cooloola Recreation Area stretching between Noosa Heads and Rainbow Beach, and the K'Gari section covering almost the entirety of Fraser Island, the world's largest sand island. This extraordinary landscape features untouched beaches, massive sand dunes, ancient rainforests growing directly in sand, heathlands, swamps, freshwater lakes, and mangrove forests. Established in 1971, the park spans approximately 2,195 square kilometres and receives around 1.1 million visitors annually.
