Jiwani Coastal Wetland

Jiwani Coastal Wetland is a designated Ramsar wetland of international importance on the coast of Balochistan in southwestern Pakistan. Located at the northeastern edge of Gwatar Bay, south of the Dasht River delta and near the town of Jiwani in Gwadar District, the site represents one of the most distinctive coastal and estuarine environments in the country. The wetland combines an interdependent mix of habitats, including a brackish lagoon, expansive mangrove swamps, sandy beaches, sand bars, and small islets. Its principal vegetation is the mangrove species Avicennia marina, one of only three mangrove types recorded in Pakistan. The freshwater regime that sustains this vegetation is closely tied to the Dasht River and seasonal runoff from the surrounding hills. Jiwani is significant on both ecological and conservation grounds. It is recognized as one of Pakistan's most important marine turtle nesting sites, particularly for olive ridley and green sea turtles. The wetland is also a key stopping point for migratory birds, supporting dozens of wintering and passage species, which has secured its place among Pakistan's network of internationally recognized wetlands.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
