Monumento Natural Morros de Macaira

Monumento Natural Morros de Macaira is a Venezuelan natural monument located in the interior of Guárico State, within the municipality of José Tadeo Monagas. It protects a compact but visually distinctive set of limestone massifs rising from the surrounding landscape, an environment that is otherwise more typical of the Caribbean coastal ranges than of the central llanos region nearby. The protected area is small, covering roughly 99 hectares; however, its geologic features give it outsized value. Three main rock massifs shelter numerous caves cut through by small seasonal watercourses, and their near-vertical cliffs form a striking local landmark. The site's paleoenvironmental and ecological significance has led to its formal recognition as a natural monument of Venezuela. The broader setting combines karstic uplands with montane forest vegetation, producing a landscape of rocky outcrops, caverns, intermittent streams, and forested slopes. Although limited in geographic extent, Morros de Macaira offers a concentrated example of limestone geology and montane habitat within a region better known for its agricultural plains.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
