Dominica's premier mountain park protecting the island's highest peak and two endemic parrot species

Morne Diablotin National Park

Morne Diablotin National Park is a protected mountain reserve in the northern highlands of Dominica, a small island nation in the Caribbean Lesser Antilles. The park encompasses the volcanic peak of Morne Diablotins, which rises to 1,447 meters and stands as Dominica's tallest mountain and largest volcano, as well as the second-highest summit in the entire Lesser Antilles archipelago. Established in January 2000 under Dominica's National Parks Act of 1975, the park was created through the consolidation of former protected areas including the Northern Forest Reserve and the Syndicate Parrot Preserve. The park serves as a critical sanctuary for Dominica's endemic parrots, notably the endangered Sisserou parrot, which is the national bird, and the Jaco parrot. With over fifty bird species recorded within its boundaries, the park was designated an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International in 2007. The protected area covers approximately 8,242 acres, representing about 4.4 percent of Dominica's total land area.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
