A coastal nature park on the German part of Usedom Island, where Baltic beaches, bodden waters, and traditional villages meet within one compact landscape.

Naturpark Insel Usedom

Naturpark Insel Usedom protects the German portion of Usedom Island in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, extending across a remarkably diverse coastal landscape on the Baltic Sea. The park covers roughly six hundred square kilometers and reaches from the sandy beaches of the Baltic shoreline, across the inland waters of the Achterwasser and Peenestrom, to a narrow strip of mainland along the western side of the Peenestrom near Lubmin and Lassan. The defining character of the nature park is its concentration of different habitats within a very compact area. Steep coastal cliffs, dunes, shallow lagoons, lakes, formerly swampy lowlands, alder swamps, pine and beech forests, meadows, and small villages all appear side by side. This combination of Baltic shoreline and inland bodden landscapes, together with its rich birdlife, makes Usedom one of the most ecologically varied nature parks along the German Baltic coast. Connectivity, ecology, and cultural landscape all come together here. Around half of the park consists of water surfaces, a quarter is forested, and the remainder supports agriculture, villages, and traditional seaside resorts. The protection, conservation, and gentle use of this mosaic of coastal habitats sit at the heart of the park's purpose.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
