Noosa Biosphere Reserve

Noosa Biosphere Reserve is an internationally protected UNESCO Biosphere Reserve covering the entire region of Noosa in southeastern Queensland, Australia. Designated in 2007, it was the first biosphere reserve in the state of Queensland and encompasses an extraordinary mosaic of rainforests, beaches, woodlands, wetlands, lakes, rivers, and mountains along the Sunshine Coast. The reserve includes the Noosa Everglades, an expansive system of waterways and floodplains that is often compared to the Florida Everglades and is described as one of only two everglades systems in the world. Its location at the overlap of the tropical Torresian and temperate Bassian biogeographic regions gives the reserve an exceptionally diverse mix of species within a relatively compact area. Governance is community-led through Noosa Biosphere Limited, a not-for-profit organization involving local residents and stakeholders. The reserve protects a wide range of national parks, state forests, conservation parks, and nature refuges, functioning as a living laboratory for sustainable development and conservation practice.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
