Réserve naturelle nationale de la forêt domaniale de Cerisy

The Réserve naturelle nationale de la forêt domaniale de Cerisy is a French national nature reserve in Normandy that protects a large block of the historic Cerisy state forest. It spans more than two thousand hectares across the departments of Calvados and Manche, centred on the commune of Montfiquet with a small extension into Cerisy-la-Forêt, and it is embedded entirely within the broader forêt domaniale de Cerisy. The reserve was established in March 1976 with the specific aim of safeguarding an endemic subspecies of ground beetle, Chrysocarabus auronitens cupreonitens, the coppery-shouldered golden ground beetle, which occurs here and nowhere else. At the time French nature protection law did not yet exist, and the national nature reserve was chosen as the strongest available legal tool. Today the landscape is a broad Proterozoic schist plateau surfaced with clay soils, dominated by beech forest and supporting a notably rich woodland avifauna, amphibian population, and insect fauna.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
