Réserve naturelle régionale de l'Escaut-rivière

The Réserve naturelle régionale de l'Escaut-rivière is a small regional nature reserve located in the commune of Proville, just southwest of Cambrai in the Hauts-de-France region of northern France. Covering about 60 hectares, it protects the last relatively wild reach of the Escaut river before the waterway becomes canalized and navigable toward the North Sea. The reserve is remarkable for its alluvial character, bringing together wet meadows, marshes, reedbeds and a young alluvial forest that has been regenerating since the mid-1990s. These habitats are exceptionally rare in the Cambrésis plain, where centuries of intensive agriculture have eliminated most of the original valley floor wetlands. In a region where wetlands cover less than one percent of the territory, the reserve functions as an important biodiversity reservoir and as an active restoration site. Administratively classified in 2011 and inaugurated in 2012, the reserve is managed by the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels du Nord et du Pas-de-Calais. It integrates into the regional green and blue infrastructure and contributes to the ecological corridor role of the Escaut, one of Europe's major fluvial biological corridors.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
