The Réserve naturelle régionale du val de Loire Bourbonnais is a regional natural reserve in central France, located in the department of Allier within the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Classified in 2015, the reserve spans 308 hectares of land along a section of the Loire River, with its territory falling within the communes of Garnat-sur-Engièvre and Saint-Martin-des-Lais. The reserve protects a stretch of the Loire and its surrounding floodplain landscape in the Bourbonnais area, including the area known as the méandre des Germains. Managed by the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de l'Allier since its early involvement on the site starting in 2002, the reserve is conceived as both a place for conservation experimentation and a site with educational value. Although modest in size by French national reserve standards, the RNR represents an important piece of the regional effort to protect fragile Loire river habitats and to provide public engagement with the natural and cultural heritage of the Allier valley.
