Shatsk National Natural Park

Shatsk National Natural Park is a protected area in northwestern Ukraine, established in 1983 to preserve the unique wetland and forest ecosystems of the Volyn Polissia region. The park encompasses one of Europe's largest lake groupings, the Shatskyi Lakes, comprising over thirty lakes spread across approximately 490 square kilometers. The most prominent is Svitiaz Lake, the deepest natural lake in Ukraine reaching 58.4 meters, which holds 180.8 million cubic meters of water and is recognized as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Ukraine. The park's landscape features a flat, gently undulating terrain with elevations between 160 and 180 meters above sea level, dotted with glacial and fluvioglacial deposits. Forests dominate just over half of the park's territory, primarily pine and blueberry forests with alder and birch in wetland areas. The park serves as a critical migratory bird corridor and was designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 1995, later becoming part of the West Polesie Transboundary Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme in 2002.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
