Willandra National Park

Willandra National Park is a protected area located in the Far West region of New South Wales, Australia, approximately 580 kilometres west of Sydney. The 19,386-hectare park occupies flat grassy plains bounded to the north by Willandra Creek, a tributary of the Lachlan River. Established in May 1972, the park sits on the northern edge of the Riverina Plain within the Murray Basin lowlands, presenting a semi-arid landscape characterized by very hot summers and cold winters. The area holds significant ecological value despite modifications from over a century of pastoral use, providing important habitat for native species including the threatened Plains-wanderer, emus, and kangaroos.
