Yambaru National Park

Yambaru National Park is a protected area in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, established in September 2016 as the nation's 33rd national park and the third within Okinawa. The park occupies the forested Yambaru region at the northern end of Okinawa Island, spanning the villages of Kunigami, Ōgimi, and Higashi. Covering approximately 17,311 hectares of land and 3,670 hectares of surrounding marine areas, the park protects one of Japan's most significant subtropical evergreen laurel forests. The park holds IUCN Category II protected area status and forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 2021 as the Amami-Oshima Island, Tokunoshima Island, northern part of Okinawa Island, and Iriomote Island serial property.
