Amboró National Park

Amboró National Park is one of Bolivia's most significant protected areas, located in the central part of the country within Santa Cruz Department. Situated at the geographic transition known as the Elbow of the Andes, where the eastern cordillera shifts westward from its northern trajectory, the park encompasses an extraordinary range of ecosystems within its 4,425 square kilometers. The park protects parts of five distinct ecoregions, including Southwest Amazon moist forests, Dry Chaco, Bolivian montane dry forests, Chiquitano dry forests, and Yungas cloud forests at higher elevations. This remarkable ecological diversity, compressed into a relatively compact area, makes Amboró one of the most botanically rich national parks in the world, with approximately 3,000 documented plant species. The park was originally established in 1973 as the Reserva de Vida Silvestre German Busch and achieved national park status in 1984, later expanding and contracting to its current size following complex boundary negotiations with local communities.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
