Lagarpampa Natural Area

Lagarpampa Natural Area is a municipally designated protected landscape in the department of Cochabamba, Bolivia, lying within the inter-Andean dry valleys that run between the country's two major Andean ranges. It falls inside the municipality of Aiquile, in the province of Campero, where the terrain is shaped by semi-arid conditions, seasonal rains, and traditional agropastoral livelihoods. The area is best understood as a community-led conservation initiative. Rather than being established by a national parks authority, it originated in an organic congress of the local subcentral organizations and rural syndicates of Lagarpampa and Mollepampa, reflecting how local communities in the Bolivian highlands have moved to formalize protection of ecologically and culturally significant landscapes around their villages. Most of the area sits at roughly 1,800 meters above sea level and covers about 30,000 hectares of dry valley scenery that combines native vegetation, agricultural use, and habitat for birdlife of regional importance, including the endangered red-fronted macaw, one of Bolivia's most distinctive parrot species.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
