A lowland forest landscape park south of Warsaw, protecting the Chojnów Forests and fragments of the Vistula valley.
Chojnowski Park Krajobrazowy
Chojnowski Park Krajobrazowy is a protected landscape park situated on the Warsaw Plain and the edge of the Middle Vistula Valley, on the left bank of the Vistula river, immediately south of Warsaw. It was created to safeguard the Chojnów Forests (Lasy Chojnowskie), the lower course of the Jeziorka river, and a stretch of the Vistula valley with its prominent escarpment and historic manor park. Since 2010 the park has been part of the Mazowiecki Zespół Parków Krajobrazowych, and it also forms an element of the Green Ring of Warsaw (Zielony Pierścień Warszawy).
The landscape is dominated by mixed and broadleaf forests, with pine dominating the stands, set against post-glacial lowland terrain, dunes, river valleys, and the steep edge of the Vistula escarpment. Ecologically, the park is notable for its mosaic of aquatic, boggy, and meadow habitats, hosting roughly one hundred bird species and dozens of fish, amphibian, reptile, and mammal species, including legally protected taxa and ongoing reintroduction efforts such as the peregrine falcon.
The park combines natural protection with a strong cultural dimension: village settlements, suburban development, palace-park ensembles, and memorial sites are integrated into its landscape. Eleven nature reserves and two Natura 2000 sites lie within its boundaries, and the area supports an active educational programme through the Mazowiecki Parki Krajobrazowe complex.
