Corroboree Rock Conservation Reserve

Corroboree Rock Conservation Reserve is a small protected area in the Northern Territory of Australia, located about 42 kilometres east of Alice Springs within the East MacDonnell Ranges. The reserve centres on a prominent column of grey dolomite rock that rises from the surrounding arid range country and gives the protected area its name. Although the reserve covers only a few hectares, it holds deep cultural significance as a sacred site of the Eastern Arrernte people, who are its Traditional Owners. The rock belongs geologically to the Bitter Springs formation, a sequence of sedimentary rocks deposited in ancient salt lakes roughly 800 million years ago, making the site of interest far beyond its current size. Surrounded by the Undoolya pastoral lease, which is still active as a cattle station, the reserve contrasts with the broader working pastoral landscape around it and represents one of the smaller but culturally and geologically meaningful protected nodes in central Australia. The reserve has been formally protected since 1962 and is managed by the Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory. Its combination of an ancient rock formation, arid environment vegetation, and Aboriginal cultural importance gives the site a distinctive identity within the regional network of Northern Territory reserves.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
