El Cardón Natural Park and Integrated Management Natural Area

El Cardón Natural Park and Integrated Management Natural Area is a protected area in southern Bolivia, located in the department of Tarija, about 72 kilometers from the city of Tarija. It spans about 30,000 hectares across the municipalities of El Puente and Yunchará, in the provinces of Méndez and José María Avilés, and sits within the high-altitude puna and pre-puna landscapes of the Bolivian Andes. The protected area also has a strong community dimension, with about two hundred families living in its surrounding villages and a growing emphasis on community-based ecotourism, traditional cactus-wood crafts, and the preservation of pre-Columbian archaeological sites scattered across the landscape.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
