Kon Ka Kinh National Park

Kon Ka Kinh National Park is a protected area in Vietnam's Central Highlands region, established in 2002 on the Kon Tum Plateau in Gia Lai Province. Spanning approximately 418 square kilometers, the park encompasses dramatic mountainous terrain with elevations ranging from 570 meters in the Ba River valley to 1,748 meters at Kon Ka Kinh peak. The park serves as a critical watershed area, protecting the upstream flows of the Ba River and Dak Pne River, which provide essential water resources for agricultural lands across Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces. The park is recognized as a priority zone for biodiversity conservation both within Vietnam and throughout the ASEAN region, designated as an ASEAN Heritage Park. Its location on the Kon Tum Plateau creates unique ecological conditions where flora typical of northern and central Vietnam mixes with species from Yunnan-Guizhou, Himalayan foothills, Malaysia-Indonesia, and India-Myanmar regions. This convergence of distinct biogeographic influences makes Kon Ka Kinh one of Vietnam's most botanically diverse protected areas, home to hundreds of plant species representing more than 140 families.
