Lange Dammwiesen und Unteres Annatal

Lange Dammwiesen und Unteres Annatal is a small nature reserve in the German state of Brandenburg, established in 1990 and managed by the NABU regional branch Strausberg-Märkische Schweiz. Despite covering only about 1.26 hectares, the area combines distinctive glacial landforms with centuries of cultural land use, resulting in a surprisingly varied mosaic of meadows, woodland, and valley habitats near the town of Strausberg. The reserve lies within the Ostbrandenburgische Platte, a part of the North German Plain shaped by the Weichselian glaciation. Long ridges known as osar give the protected area part of its name, while the lower Annatal valley contributes the other. Together they frame an ecologically rich lowland landscape that supports both rare plants and recovering meadow communities. The protected area is significant as a working example of nature-led land management. Grazing by Heck cattle has transformed parts of the reserve, encouraging the recovery of species that had been presumed lost and improving the condition of the meadows and woodland edges.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
