Lochinvar National Park

Lochinvar National Park is a protected floodplain ecosystem in southern Zambia, covering 428 square kilometres along the southern edge of the Kafue River. Established in 1972 on a former ranch, the park preserves a significant portion of the southern Kafue Flats, one of Zambia's most important wetland systems. The park is renowned for its large populations of Kafue lechwe, an endemic antelope species adapted to the seasonal flooding of the flats, as well as remarkable bird diversity with over 400 species recorded. The landscape combines extensive marshes and lagoons, particularly the Chunga Lagoon, with drier woodland areas dominated by iconic termite mounds and wooded hills in the southern reaches.
