Manyeleti Game Reserve

Manyeleti Game Reserve is a protected wildlife area in the eastern part of Mpumalanga province, South Africa. It sits directly adjacent to the Kruger National Park, with the Timbavati Game Reserve to its northwest and the Sabi Sand Game Reserve to its south, forming part of a continuous mosaic of unfenced conservation land in the Lowveld. The reserve covers more than 22,750 hectares and is managed by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government. Its name comes from the Xitsonga word 'Manyeleti', meaning 'Place of Stars', reflecting the exceptionally clear night skies over this part of the bushveld. Manyeleti is well known for its role in the greater Kruger ecosystem and for its sociocultural significance as a reserve assigned, during the apartheid era, for the use of Black South Africans. Today, the reserve is open year-round and forms part of a connected landscape of private and public conservation areas that supports large mammal populations, traditional leadership structures, and ongoing land restitution processes involving the Tsonga communities who originally occupied the area.
