Meteoryt Morasko Nature Reserve

Meteoryt Morasko is a small landscape and forest nature reserve on the northern edge of the city of Poznań, in the Greater Poland (Wielkopolskie) region of west-central Poland. It is best known as the site of a cluster of impact craters that most researchers link to the fall of the Morasko meteorite roughly five thousand years ago, making it one of the most distinctive meteorite-related landscapes in Central Europe despite its compact urban-adjacent setting. The reserve spans about 54 hectares, with a buffer zone of around 102 hectares around it, and belongs to the Łopuchówko Forest District. Its territory includes the highest natural elevation within Poznań, Góra Moraska, as well as a small glacial lake called Zimna Woda and a network of forested depressions corresponding to the impact craters themselves. Beyond its geological importance, Meteoryt Morasko protects valuable oak-hornbeam woodland, fragments of wet elm-ash forest, and a series of small crater pools that host distinctive plant and amphibian communities. The reserve has become both a local natural landmark and an outdoor classroom. Walking trails, information boards and an educational path run through it, while the Polish Society for Nature Protection "Salamandra" has helped develop its educational role since 1994. Today Meteoryt Morasko stands out as a place where regional ecology, scientific research and accessible urban nature intersect.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
