Mornington Sanctuary

Mornington Sanctuary is a large nature reserve in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, covering thousands of square kilometres of rugged tropical country. It lies within the Pentecost subregion of the Central Kimberley bioregion and is owned and managed by the Australian Wildlife Conservancy. The reserve combines sections of the Wunaamin-Miliwundi Ranges, the upper catchment of the Fitzroy River, sandstone mesas, and extensive tropical savanna woodland and grassland. The sanctuary is recognised as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International, supporting significant populations of threatened species such as Gouldian finches and red goshawks alongside a wide suite of savanna and rock-dwelling birds.
