Réserve naturelle régionale du marais de Sougeal

The Réserve naturelle régionale du marais de Sougeal is a small regional nature reserve in Brittany, northwestern France, located in the Ille-et-Vilaine department along the lower Couesnon River, just inland from the famed Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. The reserve protects roughly 175 hectares of low-lying, seasonally flooded wet grassland, shaped into a long narrow strip oriented north to south and bordered by hedgerows and poplar windbreaks. The marsh is a flat expanse of grassy meadows that are intentionally inundated in winter and spring, drained by a network of small channels called rués. These wet conditions create one of the most important inland feeding and stopover sites for waterbirds on the Mont-Saint-Michel bay, particularly ducks, waders, and white storks. In summer, the reserve returns to its traditional role as communal pasture for cattle, horses, and geese, blending agricultural heritage with active wetland conservation.

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate
