Marais Les Trous de Leu Regional Nature Reserve

Marais Les Trous de Leu is a small regional nature reserve in northeastern France, protecting a mosaic of wetland habitats at the edge of the city of Reims. Established in 2014 and managed by the Conservatoire d'espaces naturels de Champagne-Ardenne, the reserve forms the northern part of the broader Vesle marshland, one of the better-preserved wetland complexes in the valley. The protected site covers about 33 hectares between the Vesle river and the former Canal de l'Aisne à la Marne, shaped as a triangular wedge of land. Its mix of alkaline peatland, wet meadows, reedbeds, alluvial woodland, and aquatic vegetation makes it a key biodiversity hotspot in the Grand Est region. Although modest in size, the reserve concentrates a remarkable variety of habitats, from low alkaline peatlands and sedge marshes to willow, birch, and oak alluvial forests. Its combination of high biodiversity, formal protection status, and proximity to a major urban center gives the site a distinctive local role in wetland conservation and ecological awareness in Champagne-Ardenne.

Distance methodology

Geographic measurements, not driving distances

How nearby park distances are calculated

Distances use park boundaries whenever the available geometry allows it. When one or both boundaries are missing, the mapped park locations provide a clearly labelled estimate. Every value represents straight-line geographic separation and does not use roads or routing.

Boundary distance

Calculated between the nearest points of both park boundaries.

Location-to-boundary estimate

Estimated from one mapped park location to the nearest boundary of the other park.

Mapped-location estimate

Estimated between the mapped locations of both parks.
